About Wendi Momen

Born in Hollywood, California, I moved to the UK in 1969, married Moojan in 1971, had two children, Sedrhat (born 1973) and Carmel (born 1976), got my PhD from London School of Economics in 1978 (Foreign Policy of the Gambia) and began working as a freelance editor and publisher, mostly with George Ronald, Publisher, in about 1980. I now have two grandchildren, Dreyfus (2004) and Aaliyeh (2006).

I’ve been a Baha’i all my life - my mother, grandmother and great grandmother were all Baha’is, as well many of my brothers and sisters and several members of our extended family.

My passions are the Baha’i Faith, my family, travel, books, social justice, spiritual development, the advancement of women, human rights, entertaining my friends, jazz and everything to do with the prosperity and advancement of civilization. Oh, and vegetarian cooking.

My un-passions are social injustice, violence and trafficking. And beetroot.

    Hi Wendi,

Well done to you and Barney for helping you. It’s done very professionally. I didn’t know he was into these things. I wish you all the success in your web blog.

Saw Moojan at this seminar yesterday. Good seminar, i wish there were more people attending.

Parvine is here. Maybe, we will come and see you sometime soon.

    Best Wishes,

    Hamid

    Peace Wendi,

Just a quick note to say that this looks to be an interesting blog. I’ve visited your home page in the past (and have certainly read your husband’s books).

Insha Allah, I look forward to sharing thoughts on life and the journey towards the Hereafter with you.

Peace and God’s mercy to you and yours,
    Abdur Rahman

Dear Wendi, thanks for this lovely, well done Website/Blog… I really enjoy your comments, information and letters and Barneys site also… wish you and your family lived in my town…. it is a lovely town on the bay of Mobile (Holy Spirit) where Paul k. Dealy came as first Bahai in US to settle in the south…so it has a wondrous mystical quality; however, there are not enough Bahais to really feel the sense of community that is exciting and exhilarating…. Back to your site, it is one I want to look into often… and the travel comments and marriage…awesome. thanks Wendi, sonya bennett/Fairhope, Alabama, USA

    Hi Wendi,
I was extremely glad to meet you. Your Basic Bahá’í Dictionary was, and always is, my main reference to anything Bahá’í, and also one of my favourite non-authoritative books about the Bahá’í Faith. Wish you luck with your blog.

    Hi Wendi:

I am enjoying your website and all the quotations you found about travel; how intriguing to find such gems in the Writings! I also second Nabil’s comments about the Baha’i dictionary. I refer to it often when proofreading the Chicago newsletter. Thanks for giving us all a “nudge” through Bahai-announce.

    Allah-u-Abha,
    Valerie in Chicago

    Dear Wendi,
So glad to be able to correspond with you. I’ve been an admirer of your work (and Moojan’s) since I was a baby Baha’i in Orange, CA. It’s my understanding that you were given some of my calligraphy way back then - the portrait of the Beloved Master? (www.schoolmarmwood.org).
Many thanks and prayers of gratitude have been saved up for you and Moojan through the years, so here they are at last.
You may thank our mutual friend Megha Shyam for the contact.
    In service and love,
    Randall Dighton

    Why don’t you like beetroot?
    I didn’t use to actually.

  15. wendi momenon 26 Apr 2009 at 17:49

Justr don’t - no rational reason! Some people don’t like jazz, I don’t like beetroot!

As a researcher in Comparative Religions I learned this week about Professor Juan Cole. I understand you are familiar with his views. Would you happen to know Juan’s current status with the Baha’is . . . I understand there were some discrepancies as to Baha’i rights, which you, of course, support.
    Thanks,
    Al

    Dear Wendi,

In your wanderings, you might have met a Mehran in Shenzhen. Is he a Baha’i from Canada? If so, would you kindly let him know my email address?

    Thank you very much.
